Who can take part
- Age 18 or older
- Cancer confirmed or highly suspected to be blocking bile ducts near the liver, shown on imaging
- High bilirubin level (>3 mg/dL) indicating bile is backed up
- Not a candidate for surgery, OR candidate for surgery but meets at least one special condition (small remaining liver, severe jaundice, malnutrition, or needs chemotherapy first)
- No previous bile duct drainage procedure
- No current infection of bile ducts (fever and high white blood cells)
