Comparing two stent placements for bile duct blockage
Part of Cancer, Digestive system clinical trials.
This trial compares two ways of placing plastic stents to relieve bile duct blockage in people with advanced cancer at the liver. The goal is to find which method is better at keeping bile flowing and reducing symptoms.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- Be 18 years or older
- Have a bile duct blockage at the liver (hilar area) that cannot be removed by surgery
- Need drainage of bile because of jaundice or a bile duct infection

This trial compares two ways of placing a metal stent to open a blocked bile duct caused by cancer. The goal is to see which method works better and has fewer complications.
This study compares two types of temporary stents used to relieve bile duct blockage before surgery in people with pancreatic cancer. It aims to see which stent works better as a bridge to surgery, potentially helping you feel better while waiting for your procedure.
This study compares two different metallic stent designs to help keep bile ducts open in patients with advanced bile duct cancer. You would already have a temporary drainage tube in place and be scheduled for a permanent stent, so this trial tests which stent type works better.
This trial compares two minimally invasive endoscopic procedures to open a blocked bile duct in people with cancer that is borderline for surgery. The goal is to find which approach works better as the first treatment to relieve jaundice and improve quality of life.
This trial tests two different types of stents placed during an endoscopic procedure to keep the bile duct open longer. It aims to find which stent works better for people whose cancer blocks the bile ducts and who cannot have surgery.
This trial tests a newer, ultrasound-guided procedure to drain blocked bile flow using a special metal stent. It may help people who have bile duct blockage but could not have their bile drained successfully with standard ERCP.
