Who can take part

  • You have a confirmed diagnosis of AML (except a specific type called APL) or MDS.
  • For AML: You either have not responded to or relapsed after previous treatment, or you are newly diagnosed and age 60 or older (or age 18-59 with health issues making strong chemo unsafe).
  • For MDS: You score higher than 3 on a standard risk scale and more than 5% of your bone marrow cells are blasts (immature cells).
  • Your doctor expects you to live at least 12 more weeks.
  • Your kidneys and liver work well enough (creatinine clearance at least 30 mL/min and normal liver tests).
  • You have not had azacitidine or a similar drug (BCL-2 inhibitor) without improvement or with side effects.
