Who can take part

  • You have a type of thalassemia that requires regular blood transfusions
  • You are planning to receive a stem cell transplant from an unrelated donor or a partially matched family donor
  • Your physical condition score is 70% or higher (you are generally active and able to care for yourself)
  • You or your legal guardian agrees to join the study and signs the consent form
  • You do not have certain active infections, serious organ problems, or other conditions listed in the exclusion criteria
