Who can take part
- You are scheduled for heart surgery that uses a heart-lung machine.
- You must not have kidney failure that requires dialysis.
- You must not have liver disease before surgery.
- You must not have a weak heart pump (ejection fraction below 50%).
- You must not use a balloon pump in your aorta before surgery, have atrial fibrillation, or have a pacemaker.
- You must be able to have a TEE (a special ultrasound probe placed in your throat during surgery).
