Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older.
  • You are on a breathing machine with a very specific low-volume setting (6 mL per kilogram of ideal body weight).
  • You have circulatory failure, meaning your body isn't getting enough blood flow.
  • Your heart is beating in a normal rhythm (sinus rhythm).
  • You do not have an open chest, very stiff lungs, severe obesity, or other conditions listed as exclusions.
