Ephedrine for faster muscle relaxant in elderly patients

Who can take part

  • You are 80 years old or older.
  • You are scheduled for a planned surgery under general anesthesia that requires a breathing tube.
  • You have an ASA physical status rating of I, II, or III (generally healthy to mild to moderate health issues).
  • You can read and understand Danish.
  • You are not allergic to rocuronium or ephedrine.
  • You do not have a neuromuscular disease that would affect muscle response testing.
  • You are not needing a rapid sequence induction (a crash emergency intubation).
  • You do not take beta-blocker medications daily.
  • You do not have a known heart rhythm problem like atrial fibrillation or other irregular rhythms.
