Who can take part

  • You have a malignant pleural effusion (fluid buildup around your lung from cancer).
  • You are expected to live more than 30 days.
  • Your daily activity level is mostly independent (1–2, or 3 if due to shortness of breath).
  • You have not had a failed pleurodesis (sealing procedure) on the same side before.
  • Your lung is not known to be 'trapped' (unable to expand fully).
