Laser or nerve therapy for shoulder pain after liver donation

This study tests if a low-level laser or gentle movement therapy for nerves in the arm can help relieve shoulder pain after donating part of your liver. You will be randomly assigned to one of two treatments and attend supervised sessions.

Who can take part

  • You are between 20 and 50 years old.
  • You have right-sided shoulder pain after donating part of your liver (you will start the program at least 1 week after surgery).
  • Your shoulder pain is moderate to severe (score of 5 or more on a 0–10 pain scale).
  • You do not have diabetes, broken bones, heart or lung problems, spinal cord injury, cancer, or a psychological condition that would interfere with the therapy.
