Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older
  • You have had high blood pressure or diabetes for more than 1 year before surgery
  • You are scheduled for surgery to remove colorectal cancer (not for emergencies or if cancer has spread to other organs)
  • You are not taking certain medications that strongly affect your metabolism (like hormone therapy or strong immune-suppressing drugs)
  • Your surgery is not combined with removal of other major organs
