Who can take part
- You have been diagnosed with rectal adenocarcinoma (a type of rectal cancer confirmed by biopsy).
- An MRI shows the tumor is at a locally advanced stage (T3-4 and/or spread to nearby lymph nodes).
- You are between 18 and 80 years old and able to take oral medications.
- Your daily activity level is good (able to carry out normal activities or at least light work).
- You have not had any previous treatment for rectal cancer, including surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy.
- The tumor is no more than 12 cm from the anal opening and you are suitable for surgery.
