Steroids before breathing tube removal in children in the ICU

Who can take part

  • Your child has a breathing tube in place (with or without a cuff).
  • Your child is between 2 days old (after full-term birth) and 6 years old.
  • Your child has been on a breathing machine (ventilator) for at least 36 hours.
  • Your child is ready to have the breathing tube removed, as decided by the medical team.
  • Your child's oxygen levels and breathing settings are stable (e.g., oxygen less than 45%, oxygen saturation 95% or higher).
