Who can take part

  • You are between 40 and 60 years old.
  • You have a heel spur on only one foot.
  • You have pain and swelling at the bottom of your heel, especially when you first stand up in the morning or after sitting for a long time.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is under 29.
  • You have had a foot X-ray that shows the heel spur.
  • You have not had surgery or steroid injections in the last 3 months, and you do not have other conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or lupus.

Comparing Treatments for Heel Pain With a Heel Spur

This study compares two treatments for chronic heel pain caused by plantar fasciopathy (inflammation of the tissue on the bottom of your foot). If you have a heel spur, you may receive either a steroid injection or a procedure called radiofrequency ablation (which uses heat to calm the pain). The study will also use ultrasound to see how the tissue changes.
