Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

This study tests whether doing core exercises can help reduce knee pain in people with patellofemoral pain syndrome—pain at the front of the knee that comes on gradually. It is meant for young adults with a healthy weight who have had this type of knee pain for more than 3 months.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 35 years old.
  • You have had gradual front knee pain for more than 12 weeks without a specific injury.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is between 18 and 25.
  • At least two activities like jumping, running, sitting long, stairs, kneeling, or squatting make your pain worse.
  • You do not have a history of knee surgery, certain knee injuries, or conditions like diabetes or arthritis that affect muscle strength.

Hip, knee, and foot exercises for kneecap pain

This study tests whether adding hip and knee exercises to a simple foot exercise (called short foot exercise) helps reduce pain and improve function in women with kneecap pain (patellofemoral pain syndrome). You may be a good fit if you are a woman aged 18–45 who has had front knee pain for at least 6 weeks and it gets worse with activities like squatting or stairs.

This study tests whether strengthening your quadriceps (front thigh muscles) at different knee angles can reduce pain behind or around your kneecap. If you have had this type of knee pain for at least 3 months, you may be eligible.
