Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

This study compares two types of exercise programs—core stability exercises versus proprioceptive training—to see which is better at reducing pain and improving function in people with patellofemoral pain syndrome (anterior knee pain). If you have chronic kneecap pain, this trial may help you find a more effective way to manage it.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 40 years old.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is under 30.
  • You have had knee pain under the kneecap for at least 3 months.
  • You feel more knee pain when climbing stairs, squatting, kneeling, running, or sitting for a long time.
  • You do not have other chronic pain conditions like arthritis or back pain.
  • You have not had any surgery on your lower back, hip, knee, or foot.

This study tests whether adding hip and knee exercises to a simple foot exercise (called short foot exercise) helps reduce pain and improve function in women with kneecap pain (patellofemoral pain syndrome). You may be a good fit if you are a woman aged 18–45 who has had front knee pain for at least 6 weeks and it gets worse with activities like squatting or stairs.
