Pericarditis risk in end-stage kidney disease patients

Pericardial Disease

Part of Heart & circulation clinical trials.

This study looks at how common pericarditis (inflammation around the heart) is in people with end-stage kidney disease (ESRD) and what causes it. It may help find better ways to detect and manage this heart problem in patients on dialysis.

Who can take part

  • You have end-stage kidney disease (kidney function is below 10%).
  • You are either admitted to the nephrology unit or getting regular hemodialysis.
  • Your pericarditis is likely caused by your kidney disease, not by other conditions like infection, cancer, or autoimmune disease.

Testing fluid around the heart in recurring pericarditis

This study analyzes pericardial fluid (the fluid around your heart) to understand why pericarditis comes back. If you have pericarditis or other heart fluid buildup requiring drainage, or if you're having heart surgery, you may be able to participate.

NCT06083168Recruiting
Heart disease in chronic kidney disease study

This study is looking at the link between kidney disease and heart disease. It aims to understand how heart problems affect people with chronic kidney disease. The trial does not test a new drug, but rather follows patients to learn more about their health.

Kidney disease, high potassium, and heart changes

This study looks at how high potassium levels (hyperkalemia) in people with chronic kidney disease may affect the heart. Doctors will use echocardiograms (heart ultrasounds) to check for changes.

Heart function study in kidney dialysis patients

This study looks at how well the heart's pumping and relaxing function works in people with end-stage kidney disease who are on hemodialysis. It may help doctors understand heart problems better in this group.

NCT06037759Not yet recruiting
New heart tests for people with kidney disease

This study looks at new ways to check heart health in people with kidney disease. Researchers want to find out if special blood tests can help predict heart problems in patients on dialysis or those with earlier stage kidney disease.

NCT07686978Not yet recruiting
Heart and bone health in dialysis patients vs. healthy

This study looks at heart and bone health in people on dialysis compared to healthy volunteers. If you are on dialysis for at least 6 months, or if you are healthy with no kidney issues, you may be able to join.
