Who can take part

  • You must be 18 or older.
  • You are scheduled for heart valve repair/replacement, aortic surgery, or 3+ bypass grafts using a heart-lung machine.
  • You have mild to moderate chronic kidney disease (measured by a blood test).
  • You have not had kidney injury in the past month, kidney transplant, or dialysis.
  • No major surgery in the last 2 months, no active infections, and no recent cancer treatment.
