Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for heart surgery that uses a heart-lung machine (such as bypass, valve surgery, or aortic surgery).
  • You must have certain risk factors that make acute kidney injury more likely (your doctor will check which ones apply to you).
  • Your kidney function must not be severely reduced (eGFR must be 20 or higher).
  • You cannot have had a recent cardiac emergency like needing a pacemaker, ventilator, or CPR within the last 1–2 weeks.
  • You must not be pregnant or planning a pregnancy, and if applicable, use effective birth control for 3 months after the study drug.
  • You cannot have taken part in another clinical trial within the past month.
