This study will collect urine from very premature or very low birth weight babies to look for patterns in natural chemicals (biomarkers). The goal is to find early clues about their health that could lead to better care.

Who can take part
- Your baby was born before 32 weeks of pregnancy, or weighed less than 3.3 pounds (1500 grams) at birth.
- Your baby was admitted to the NICU at the IRCCS A.O.U. of Bologna Policlinico di S. Orsola right after birth.
- You are able to give signed permission for your baby to participate.
- Your baby does not have urinary system malformations, major birth defects, genetic syndromes, or known genetic abnormalities.
- Your baby did not have severe oxygen deprivation around birth or need resuscitation 10 minutes after birth.
- Your baby did not pass away within the first 48 hours, and has not had major surgery during the study.
