Who can take part

  • Your child is generally healthy and does not have any long-term medical conditions.
  • Both lower first baby molars (the first big molars in the lower jaw) have been lost early on both sides.
  • X-rays show that the permanent tooth underneath is present and healthy, with at least 1.5 mm of bone above it.
  • Your child's bite is normal for their age (flush terminal plane or mesial step in baby teeth, or Angle class 1 in mixed teeth).
  • The teeth next to the missing ones are healthy, with no cavities or gum problems seen on exam or x-ray.
  • Your child is cooperative and not anxious — they have a Frankl behavior rating of 3 or 4 (positive or definitely positive).
