Comparing nerve monitoring in mouth-based thyroid surgery

Who can take part

  • You have a benign thyroid nodule, a follicular lesion, or an early papillary thyroid cancer smaller than 1 cm.
  • Your largest thyroid nodule is smaller than 6 cm (about the size of a lime).
  • If you have cancer, it has not spread to the lymph nodes in your neck.
  • You have never had thyroid surgery or radiation to your neck.
  • You do not have a paralyzed vocal cord.
  • Your surgery is completed through the mouth (no cut on the neck) and does not need to be changed to a traditional open surgery.
