Who can take part
- You need to be having thyroid surgery (either full removal or half removal)
- You must be 19 years old or older
- You cannot have had previous thyroid or parathyroid surgery
- You cannot have preoperative vocal cord paralysis (difficulty moving your vocal cords before surgery)
- You cannot have cancer that has spread to lymph nodes in your neck
- The surgical team must be able to use special monitoring equipment (IONM) to check nerve function during surgery
