Can Copeptin and Thirst Predict Weight-Loss Surgery Success?

This study looks at whether levels of a blood marker called copeptin and your sense of thirst can help predict how well bariatric (weight-loss) surgery works. If you are eligible, you will have blood tests and answer questions about thirst before and after surgery.

Who can take part

  • You must be between 18 and 65 years old.
  • Your BMI must be 40 or higher, OR 35 or higher with at least one obesity-related health problem (like high blood pressure or sleep apnea).
  • You cannot have diabetes (any type), cancer, or an active acute illness.
  • You cannot have severe kidney, liver, brain, or central nervous system disease.
  • You cannot be taking certain medications (like diuretics, antipsychotics, GLP-1 drugs, or hormone therapy) that might affect the substances we measure in the blood.
