Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 65 years old.
  • You need surgery for a broken leg (lower extremity fracture).
  • You have not had a heart attack in the last 6 months or have heart failure or high troponin before injury.
  • You do not have liver cirrhosis, kidney failure, or serious infections.
  • You are not diabetic and have not used steroids (glucocorticoids) in the past month.
  • You do not have a history of stroke, old fractures, or alcohol/drug dependence.
