Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with rectal adenocarcinoma (a type of rectal cancer).
  • Your cancer is locally advanced (stage cT3 with high risk, cT4, or has spread to nearby lymph nodes) and has not spread to distant parts of the body.
  • Your cancer can be removed with surgery, or the doctors believe it could become removable after radiation and chemo.
  • You have good overall health (able to care for yourself, up and about) and no major heart, nerve, or other medical problems.
  • You have not had radiation to the pelvic area or certain chemotherapies before.
  • If you could become pregnant, you must use reliable birth control.
