Who can take part
- You are 60 years or older (geriatric) and having planned (elective) surgery with general anesthesia.
- You have a normal health status (ASA class I or II) – for example, no serious heart or lung disease.
- You have not eaten or drunk anything for at least 6 to 8 hours before surgery.
- Your body mass index (BMI) is 30 or less.
- You do not have a history of peripheral artery disease, atherosclerosis, arrhythmia, cardiomyopathy, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
- Your blood pressure before surgery is between 90 and 180 mmHg (systolic).
