Who can take part

  • You must be on a breathing machine called VV-ECMO for severe lung failure within the last 48 hours.
  • You cannot have had a long cardiac arrest (more than 10 minutes) before starting ECMO.
  • You must not have untreated air leaks in your chest (like a collapsed lung) or serious lung injury from high pressure.
  • You cannot be in another study that looks at the same main outcomes (like survival or lung transplant).
  • You must be at least 18 years old and not pregnant or breastfeeding.
