Extra CO2 removal to protect lungs in moderate ARDS

Who can take part

  • Be an adult (18 years or older)
  • Be on a breathing machine (invasive mechanical ventilation) for 96 hours or less
  • Have moderate ARDS with specific breathing numbers (oxygen level, lung stiffness, and breathing pattern) measured in the first day after a set ventilation plan
  • Not be pregnant
  • Not currently be on ECMO (a different machine that supports breathing)
  • Be able to receive blood thinners if needed and have safe blood counts/coagulation tests (for example, platelets not too low and INR not too high)
