Who can take part

  • You are age 18 or older
  • You have severe lung distress from ARDS and are currently on venovenous ECMO (vvECMO)
  • Your breathing and ventilator settings have been stable or improved in the last 24 hours (oxygen levels, lung flexibility, and tidal volume while on higher PEEP)
  • Your blood pressure is steady enough for standard intensive care (hemodynamically stable)
  • A doctor can get consent from you or your legal representative
