  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have been on a breathing machine for at least 24 hours.
  • Your doctor thinks you may be ready to try breathing on your own.
  • You are not pregnant.
  • You do not have unstable blood pressure or heart rate.
  • You do not have serious breathing problems at this time.
