Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are currently being weaned from a ventilator and have a tracheostomy tube.
  • Your tracheostomy is new (placed during this hospital stay, not before).
  • Your tracheostomy is not for a blocked airway or because you are unconscious.
  • You do not use breathing support at home (except a CPAP machine for sleep apnea).
  • You do not have conditions like cystic fibrosis or muscle/nerve diseases that affect mucus or breathing.
