Who can take part
- You have a tracheostomy and are breathing steadily without help from a ventilator.
- You are 18 years or older.
- You are not pregnant.
- Your blood pressure and heart rate are stable (mean blood pressure at least 60 mmHg, heart rate between 60 and 140 beats per minute).
- Your breathing rate is 35 breaths per minute or slower and your oxygen level is 90% or above.
- You do not have certain nerve or muscle diseases like phrenic nerve injury, and you have not had recent surgery or injury to throat, chest, or stomach.
