Who can take part

  • You are 65 years old or older
  • You are having surgery for a hip fracture (specifically a femoral neck or intertrochanteric fracture)
  • You do not have delirium before surgery
  • You do not have dementia
  • You are not having surgery for a fracture caused by cancer or other bone disease
  • You do not have an active infection or open wound at the hip area before surgery
  • You do not have multiple injuries from trauma
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is between 18.5 and 35
  • You do not have chronic organ failure (like heart, kidney, or liver failure)
  • You do not have advanced cancer
