Laser treatment to prevent cavities in children's molars

This study tests whether a special laser (Er,Cr:YSGG) can prevent cavities in the deep grooves of children's permanent back teeth. It is for children ages 6–12 who are calm during dental visits and have healthy, groove-filled molars without visible cavities.

Who can take part

  • The child is 6 to 12 years old.
  • They are cooperative during dental visits (rated positive or definitely positive on the Frankl behavior scale).
  • They have at least two fully grown permanent molars with deep grooves and no cavities (ICDAS-II score 0, 1, or 2).
  • A special laser check (DIAGNOdent) shows the grooves only have early signs of decay within the enamel (score 25 or less).
  • The child has no serious health conditions, no enamel defects, and has not used a strong fluoride treatment in the last 3 months.
