This study looks at a way to measure pressure in the esophagus (the tube from your mouth to your stomach) during robotic chest surgery to improve how your lungs are ventilated (given air) and reduce breathing problems. It may help if you are having robotic chest surgery with capnothorax.

Who can take part

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must be scheduled for robotic chest surgery that uses capnothorax (a small amount of carbon dioxide between your lung and chest wall).
  • You should not have a serious heart or lung condition that makes your health status grade 4 or higher on the ASA scale (severe, life-threatening).
  • You cannot have advanced COPD (stage 3 or 4).
  • A nasogastric tube (a thin tube from your nose to your stomach) must be able to be placed safely.
  • You must not need emergency chest surgery for complications.
