This trial tests whether a special type of immune cell, called CART19, can help young people with active lupus that hasn't gotten better with standard treatments. If you join, doctors will take some of your blood cells, modify them to attack lupus-causing cells, and then give them back to you.

Who can take part

  • You must be between 12 and 29 years old.
  • You must have lupus that is active and hasn't improved after at least 3 months of standard treatments like mycophenolate mofetil or cyclophosphamide, plus one other medicine (like rituximab or belimumab).
  • You need to have had a positive ANA blood test (titer >1:80) or positive double-stranded DNA test.
  • If you have kidney lupus, a recent biopsy must show active disease and high protein in your urine.
  • If you don't have kidney lupus, your lupus must still be active (measured by a disease score) or you cannot lower your prednisone dose because of active disease.
  • Your organs (kidneys, liver, heart, lungs) must work well enough – for example, no dialysis, no severe liver damage, and no severe breathing problems.
