Tailoring breathing support and muscle relaxants during prone positioning for severe lung injury

Who can take part

  • You must be on a breathing machine through a tube in your windpipe within the last 4 days of being in the ICU, and within 3 days of that tube being placed.
  • Your oxygen levels must be very low (PaO2/FiO2 of 150 or less) even with the breathing machine set to certain levels.
  • You or your family member must agree in writing to the trial, or you can be enrolled in an emergency if no one is available.
  • You must have health insurance coverage.
  • You cannot have certain other serious conditions like severe chronic lung disease, recent head injury with high pressure in the brain, or be on a heart-lung machine.
