Who can take part

  • You must be on a breathing tube and have severe lung failure (ARDS).
  • Your oxygen levels must be very low despite being on a ventilator.
  • You must be heavily sedated and possibly given muscle relaxants.
  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You cannot have an air leak from your lung (bronchopleural fistula), severe COPD flare-up, or unstable blood pressure.
  • You must not have any reason that prevents moving your body or placing a special monitoring belt on your chest.
