Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have moderate or severe ARDS and it was diagnosed within the last 48 hours
  • You have not been on a breathing machine (continuous mechanical ventilation) for more than 7 days
  • You do not have known or suspected high pressure in the brain that needs strict carbon dioxide control
  • You are not pregnant and are not on ECMO (an advanced life-support machine for breathing) during randomization
