Comparing two jaw surgeries for severe underbite

Mandibular Deficiency

This trial compares two surgical techniques to fix a severe underbite caused by a small lower jaw. One method uses a special cut in the jawbone and a piece of hip bone to lengthen it, while the other uses a different jawbone cut to move the jaw forward. It will help find which approach works better for people with this condition.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have a severe underbite where your lower jaw is too far back (skeletal Class II).
  • Your chin is not shifted to one side (no chin deviation).
  • You do not have severe pain or problems in your jaw joints (TMJ).
  • You do not have severe gum disease, are not pregnant, and have not had previous jaw surgery.
  • You can commit to all follow-up appointments for the study.
