Who can take part

  • Age 18 or older
  • Scheduled for laparoscopic abdominal surgery (belly surgery with small incisions)
  • At moderate or high risk for lung problems after surgery, based on a standard risk score
  • No history of major lung surgery, severe COPD or emphysema
  • No conditions preventing use of the imaging belt (e.g., pacemaker, recent chest surgery) or unstable blood pressure
