Who can take part

  • You are on a breathing machine in the intensive care unit
  • You have moderate to severe lung injury (ARDS) caused by trauma or recent surgery
  • You are between 18 and 90 years old
  • You do not have a severe brain injury, active stroke, or high pressure inside your skull
  • You do not have a collapsed lung or trapped air in your chest from chest injury
  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a pacemaker/ICD
