Who can take part
- You must have a diagnosis of lumbar disc herniation (a slipped disc in your back) or osteoporosis (brittle bones).
- You need to be a woman aged 45 or older, or a man aged 50 or older.
- Your pain level should be at least a 3 on a 0-to-10 scale (0 = no pain, 10 = worst imaginable pain).
- You must be planning to have surgery during a one-week hospital stay.
- You should be able to speak Mandarin Chinese.
