Who can take part

  • You had a heart attack (STEMI) and received a clot-busting medicine within 12 hours of symptoms.
  • You are scheduled to have a balloon angioplasty (PCI) within 24 hours of your first symptoms.
  • You are taking the recommended combination of aspirin and another blood thinner (clopidogrel or ticagrelor) before your procedure.
  • You do not have a serious heart complication (like a hole in the heart wall or shock) from the heart attack.
  • You are not allergic to heparin, bivalirudin, aspirin, clopidogrel, or ticagrelor.
  • You have not had a stent placed in the past 30 days.
