Who can take part
- You must be 19 years old or older.
- You have atrial fibrillation (AF) and a stroke risk score of 2 or more.
- You have stable coronary artery disease (CAD) that was treated with a stent or bypass surgery at least 6 months ago (or 12 months if it was a heart attack).
- You must have a high risk of another ischemic event, such as a prior heart attack, complex stenting, blocked arteries, or peripheral or cerebrovascular disease.
- You cannot be over 85 years old or have had a stent or bypass within the last 6 months.
- You must not have had a heart attack within the last 12 months.
- You are not already on warfarin for a mechanical heart valve or severe mitral stenosis, and have no other condition requiring blood thinners besides AF.
- You have not had serious bleeding in your brain or gut in the last 3 months, and do not have a bleeding disorder or active gastrointestinal tumor.
