TMS for Hereditary Ataxia

Spinocerebellar Ataxias

This trial tests whether a non-invasive brain stimulation technique called transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) can improve balance and coordination in people with hereditary spinocerebellar ataxia. If you have a confirmed genetic diagnosis of SCA1, 2, or 3 and are between 18 and 65, you may be eligible.

Who can take part

  • You must have a confirmed genetic diagnosis of spinocerebellar ataxia type 1, 2, or 3
  • You are between 18 and 65 years old
  • You have ataxia symptoms that affect your balance and coordination, but not too severe
  • You do not have serious medical conditions like kidney failure, liver disease, or uncontrolled blood pressure/diabetes
  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking certain medications that could interfere
