Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older and are scheduled for a planned (non-emergency) heart surgery.
  • You have at least one risk factor for lung complications, such as being 75 or older, having COPD or asthma, being a heavy smoker, having sleep apnea, being frail, or having a BMI of 30 or higher.
  • You do not have any condition that makes oscillation treatment unsafe, like an untreated collapsed lung (tension pneumothorax).
  • You do not have a current air leak or pneumonia in the last 2 weeks.
  • You are not in shock requiring high doses of blood pressure medication, and your heart function is adequate (LVEF at least 35% and no severe arrhythmia).
