Who can take part
- You must be on a breathing machine (intubated) for more than 24 hours
- You cannot have long-term kidney failure that requires dialysis
- You cannot have an irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation)
- You cannot have severe liver scarring (cirrhosis) or a blood clot in the liver (portal thrombosis)
- You must give your permission or have a trusted person give permission if you are unable to decide for yourself
