Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You must be in the intensive care unit and need fluids (volume expanders).
  • You must be able to give consent, or have a family member or health proxy do it for you.
  • You cannot have a legal guardian or be under legal protection.
  • You cannot be pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You cannot have a condition that makes ultrasound images unclear (poor echogenicity).
  • You cannot have chronic atrial fibrillation or a mechanical heart assist device.
