How processed food affects potassium in kidney disease

This study looks at how different food processing levels (minimally processed vs. ultra-processed) affect potassium levels in people with chronic kidney disease. You would eat two types of carefully prepared diets and have your potassium and kidney function checked.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older.
  • You have stage 3B, 4, or 5 chronic kidney disease and are not on dialysis.
  • You are willing to eat specially prepared meals and visit the study center.
  • You do not have strict dietary restrictions like vegan or vegetarian, and you are not allergic to common foods.
  • You are not taking certain medications like potassium binders or more than 2 drugs that affect potassium levels.
